J Garcia
Artist, live painter
J Garcia has been working as an artist since earning his MFA in 1999. Garcia’s artistic style is an exploration of the spatial interaction between objects. In addition to spending time in his studio, Garcia paints live on stage with touring musicians. He has painted with musicians such as EdIT, Keb’ Mo’, Modest Mouse, Pharcyde, The Roots, The Slip, Soulive, and STS9, among many, many others.
Through his art, Garcia has raised over 30,000 pounds of food for Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and local food banks through Conscious Alliance food drives; raised funding for the research of psychotropic medicine by MAPS; been used for banners in Rainforest Action Network activist demonstrations; contributed toward the building of a music and creative writing school in Gugulethu, South Africa through a Playing For Change benefit; and raised funding for Seattle-based charities by painting during NFL games with the Seahawks.
