Sut Jhally is Professor of Communication at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He holds a master's in sociology and a Ph.D. in communication, and his specialization is popular culture and advertising as a means of social control.
He has written numerous books and articles, and produced, written, directed and edited dozens of documentary films on subjects ranging from advertising and the media to issues of race and power.
Jhally is also the founder and Executive Director of the Media Education Foundation (MEF), an organization which aims to educate and inspire people to reflect critically on the impact of American mass media.
